Attention Deficit Disorder (ADHD/ADD)

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), sometimes referred to as ADD when hyperactivity is less pronounced, is a neurodevelopmental condition that affects attention, concentration, and self-control. It commonly begins in childhood but can continue into adolescence and adulthood if not diagnosed and managed.

ADHD is not a sign of laziness or lack of intelligence—it’s a medical condition that can affect how the brain regulates attention and behavior. With proper support, individuals with ADHD can lead successful, productive lives.

Types of ADHD

ADHD presents in three primary forms:

  • Inattentive Type (commonly called ADD): Difficulty focusing, following instructions, or staying organized. Less visible signs of hyperactivity.

  • Hyperactive-Impulsive Type: Excessive movement, restlessness, and impulsive behaviors.

  • Combined Type: A mix of inattentive and hyperactive-impulsive symptoms.
